Admission to Engineering Colleges in India

To take engineering education in India, a candidate must have pass XII from science stream. In order to take admission to engineering colleges in India you have to go through various entrance exams. Most of the top engineering institutes have their own selection procedures and entrance exams. Such engineering entrance exams in India include All India Engineering Entrance Examination (AIEEE), National Aptitude Test in Architecture (NATA), State Level Engineering Entrance Exams (SLEEE), Joint Entrance Examination (JEE), Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE) and SLIET Entrance Test (SET).

AIEEE is conducted by CBSE board; however IIT's (Institute of Technology) conducts JEE for under graduate engineering courses. NATA is conducted for bachelor's degree course in Architecture. SLIET Entrance Test (SET) is conducted by autonomous body Sant Longowal Institute of Engineering and Technology (SLIET), Punjab. SLEEE is conducted by every state in India for admission to engineering colleges in that particular state. However GATE is all India examination for post-graduate courses in engineering.

The most preferred engineering streams/branches by the students of India are Information Technology, Computer Science, Automobiles, Mechanical, Electrical, Electronics & Tele Communication, Civil, Aerospace, Marine, Chemical and Production engineering.
